Functional tests

Gastrocentro Lugano is proud to be one of the few centres in Canton Ticino offering functional tests, such as manometry of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tracts, as well as ph-metry. The expertise we gained over the years and continue to accrue us to professionally and thoroughly take care of our patients. Many disorders, such as reflux, heartburn, belching or sensation of incomplete bladder emptying, often have causes different from those commonly assumed. In these cases, gastroscopy and colonoscopy do not show any particular signs, leaving the patients in limbo where they are not properly treated and do not feel adequately cared for. Functional diagnostic tests often provide answers, enabling us to provide the patient with a targeted treatment.

Our interest in this field allowed us to host a live session at our clinic in 2023 for the international congress Ascona III: Advances in Clinical Measurement of Gastrointestinal Motility and Function. This workshop was led by world-renowned experts such as Professor Dr. med. Daniel Pohl from Universitätsspital Zürich and Professor Dustin A. Gastrocentro Lugano participates in the International congress - Ascona III: Advances in Clinical Measurement of Gastrointestinal Motility and Function. Ascona 15-19.5.2023

The ASCONA III: Advances in Clinical Measurement of Gastrointestinal Motility and Function Congress, held from May 15 to May 19 2023, at Monte Verità in Ascona, brought together world-renowned experts in gastrointestinal motility and function. During the event, in addition to scientific presentations, new guidelines were developed for measuring and classifying gastrointestinal motility and function, along with the related pathologies. The new guidelines have been identified as the ASCONA III classification.

Gastrocentro Lugano played a key role in organising Live Sessions about advanced diagnostic techniques such as High-Resolution Manometry, EndoFLIP and the use of the BRAVO capsule. These sessions were led by world-renowned experts such as Professor Dr. med. Daniel Pohl from Universitätsspital Zürich and Professor Dustin A. Carlson from Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, USA.

A distinctive feature of the event was the simultaneous broadcasting of the procedures performed at hour practice at the congress, enabling a broader audience to participate and interact in real-time. Professor John Pandolfino of Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, one of the world’s leading experts in the field, participated in the event, further enriching the debate.
